Last year, Anoma Watches made an unforgettable debut with the A1, a watch that challenged conventional case shapes and became an instant collector’s favorite. Now, the A1 Slate refines that vision, bringing a more understated, black-tie elegance to Anoma’s signature design.
A Bold Shape with a Sophisticated Update
For those unfamiliar, the A1 isn’t round, square, or tonneau—it’s uniquely triangular. Measuring 38mm wide by 39mm tall, its lack of traditional lugs allows for a sleek, comfortable fit despite its angular design. At 9.45mm thick, it wears subtly, blending modern minimalism with a touch of vintage avant-garde.
This time, Anoma trades the original blue dial for a deep, vertically brushed lacquer in “Slate”, shifting between black and dark greydepending on the light. The three-section dial layout remains, but refinements—like the removal of the logo near 12 o’clock—give it a cleaner, more balanced feel. The crosshair detailing and exaggerated leaf hands add a sense of controlled asymmetry that enhances the watch’s distinct character.
A Movement That Gets the Job Done
Powering the A1 Slate is the Sellita SW100 automatic movement, offering a 38-hour power reserve. While it retains the so-called “ghost date” position, Anoma’s execution keeps it discreet. Function follows form here, and the A1 is ultimately about design expression rather than mechanical innovation.
A Design-First Watch for Those Who Appreciate the Unconventional
At £1,800 (~$2,300), the A1 Slate isn’t about exclusivity or waitlists—it’s about giving collectors a second chance to own one of the most interesting modern designs in independent watchmaking. The pre-order opens on March 10th at 9 AM ET, with deliveries set for June 2025.
For those who missed the original release—or simply prefer a more understated yet striking take on Anoma’s vision—the A1 Slate is your chance.
